A new Canadian study led by researchers at the University of Toronto has found that consuming three daily servings of full-fat dairy for 12 weeks did not increase body weight, body fat, blood lipid levels or negatively affect energy metabolism in adults with overweight and obesity.
Published in the Journal of Nutrition, the randomized controlled trial suggests that full-fat dairy can be incorporated into a healthy diet without adverse effects on body composition or cardiometabolic health markers. Participants consuming full-fat dairy also increased their intake of key nutrients, including protein and calcium, while maintaining stable cholesterol and metabolic measures.
The findings challenge the long-held assumption that full-fat dairy necessarily contributes to weight gain and support a growing body of evidence that the overall food matrix of dairy may play a more important role in health outcomes than fat content alone.
Researchers emphasized that while the results are encouraging, larger and longer-term studies are needed to further evaluate the long-term health effects of regular full-fat dairy consumption across diverse populations. (Medical Xpress)
