Amul is advancing a circular dairy model aimed at making the dairy economy more sustainable and resource-efficient by converting agricultural and dairy by-products into valuable resources, while creating additional economic opportunities for farmers and rural communities. The cooperative-led approach combines innovation with environmental sustainability and focuses on better utilisation of resources generated within the agricultural and dairy ecosystem.
The initiative gains further significance from the Government’s GOBARdhan Scheme, which provides a national framework for converting organic waste into biogas, bioenergy and other useful products. By linking dairy activities with waste-to-wealth solutions, the model can help reduce waste, promote renewable energy and support more sustainable agricultural practices.
The approach also has the potential to strengthen rural communities by creating new avenues for income generation through better utilisation of locally available resources. Greater collaboration among cooperatives, farmers and government programmes could help circular dairy models contribute to cleaner communities, stronger rural economies and a greener future.
