The Telangana government has announced plans to provide Vijaya Dairy milk to more than 27 lakh students studying in government schools and anganwadis as part of its broader nutrition and education welfare initiatives. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka reviewed the proposal during a high-level meeting with Animal Husbandry Minister Vakiti Srihari and senior officials, where discussions focused on milk consumption, procurement systems, dairy farmer payments, and implementation logistics.

The initiative aligns with the state’s ongoing efforts to strengthen child nutrition, improve attendance, and support student health outcomes. Vijaya Dairy, the state-owned cooperative dairy brand, is expected to play a central role in supplying milk across urban and rural institutions. The programme is also expected to create a stable demand channel for local dairy farmers while supporting Telangana’s cooperative dairy sector.

The move follows earlier government plans to include milk in school breakfast programmes and expand nutritional support across educational institutions, reinforcing the link between dairy development and public welfare. (DairyNews)
