Milk procurement by the Bhopal Milk Union has increased by around 38% over the past year, reaching 3.81 lakh kg per day, according to The Times of India. The increase has been attributed to better financial returns for farmers, assured procurement and expansion of village-level milk collection infrastructure.
The rise highlights how stronger farmer economics can translate directly into higher milk availability for organised dairy networks. Along with improved returns, the expansion of collection facilities at the village level has helped strengthen the procurement system and encourage greater participation from milk producers.
For the dairy sector, the development offers an important lesson: competitive farmer returns and reliable procurement mechanisms can be powerful drivers of milk production and collection. Strengthening last-mile collection infrastructure can further help cooperatives build a more dependable supply base while supporting rural livelihoods.
