The dairy industry is facing a growing battle against misinformation as artificial intelligence accelerates the spread of misleading content about dairy products and farming practices, according to National Dairy Council (NDC) Ireland Chief Executive Zoe Kavanagh.

Speaking at the launch of the NDC’s annual report, Kavanagh warned that AI-generated content is making it increasingly difficult for consumers to distinguish credible information from false or misleading claims, posing a significant challenge to public trust in dairy.

She stressed that the industry must respond by providing transparent, science-based communication and proactively engaging with consumers across digital platforms.

Kavanagh also highlighted the importance of educating younger audiences about modern dairy farming, sustainability, animal welfare and nutrition, while ensuring the sector communicates its environmental progress with evidence and credibility.

The comments come as the dairy industry faces increasing scrutiny over health, climate and farming practices, reinforcing the need for fact-based communication to counter misinformation and protect consumer confidence.
