The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has increased the prices of its Nandini brand ghee by ₹15 per litre and butter by ₹50 per kg, with the revised rates taking effect from July 24, 2026. Following the revision, the price of 1 litre of ghee has increased from ₹700 to ₹715, while 1 kg of butter now costs ₹660, up from ₹610. KMF officials described the move as a marketing and business decision, citing a 20% year-on-year growth in sales, continued procurement of an average 1.10 crore litres of milk per day, and concerns arising from the ongoing drought, which has reduced the availability of milk fat content.
Officials also noted that global market conditions have affected sales, prompting a marginal increase in the prices of these two premium dairy products. The price revision is expected to raise production costs for sweets and other food products that rely heavily on ghee and butter.
KMF further indicated that milk producers are demanding a procurement price increase of at least ₹5 per litre, with officials stating that although no procurement price hike has been announced since last year, such a revision could be considered in the near future. The development highlights the growing pressure of climatic conditions, milk composition, and input costs on India’s dairy value chain, even as demand for premium dairy products continues to rise.
