Tripura has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and the Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited (GCMPUL) to accelerate cooperative dairy development and support the national vision of White Revolution 2.0.

The agreement was signed at the New Secretariat in Agartala in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and NDDB Chairman Dr. Meenesh Shah. Under the MoU, NDDB will provide technical expertise, capacity building, infrastructure planning and market development support, while GCMPUL will serve as the nodal implementing agency and the state government will extend policy and institutional support.

The initiative aims to strengthen dairy cooperatives, improve milk productivity, modernize dairy infrastructure, promote digitalisation and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for dairy farmers. Chief Minister Saha noted that Tripura’s milk production is growing at nearly 6.5% annually, with current production estimated at 2.63 lakh metric tonnes per year, equivalent to about 7.2 lakh litres per day.

He also highlighted that per capita milk availability in the state has reached 173 grams per person per day, the highest among Northeastern states. The state’s dairy plant, with a processing capacity of 40,000 litres per day, is expected to benefit from increased milk procurement and expanded production of value-added products such as paneer, curd, ghee, lassi, ice cream and sweets. The partnership is expected to strengthen farmer incomes, improve dairy value chains and enhance the long-term growth of Tripura’s cooperative dairy sector. (Newshunt Tripura)
