Saras Dairy has increased retail milk prices by ₹2 per litre across key variants in Rajasthan, marking its second price hike in just 35 days as rising production and operating costs continue to pressure cooperative dairies. The revised prices, announced by the Sikar and Jhunjhunu District Milk Producers Cooperative Union Ltd. (Palsana Saras Dairy), took effect immediately.
According to Managing Director K.C. Meena, the decision was driven by higher milk procurement costs, packaging material prices, fuel expenses and transportation charges. Along with the price revision, Saras Dairy has rationalized packaging for its Toned Milk and Gold Milk, which will now be available only in 500 ml, 1 litre and 6 litre packs.
The latest increase has also sparked opposition from the Saras Dairy Vendors Association, which is demanding higher sales commissions, arguing that retailer margins have not kept pace with inflation and rising business costs. Led by District President Rakesh Dhimwa, vendors have warned of protests if their commission structure is not revised. The development highlights the mounting financial pressure on India’s dairy cooperatives as they attempt to balance rising input costs, fair farmer payments, distributor viability and consumer affordability in an increasingly competitive dairy market.
