Sanchi, the Madhya Pradesh dairy cooperative brand, has set an ambitious five-year target to more than quadruple daily milk procurement from 12 lakh kg to 52 lakh kg and increase packet milk sales nearly fivefold from 7 lakh litres to 35 lakh litres per day under a ₹2,973-crore dairy development plan. The expansion will include five new advanced dairy plants, expansion of the cooperative network to nearly 19,000 additional villages, stronger distribution and exploration of new markets, including adjoining States where demand exists.

The plan targets an increase in Sanchi’s processing capacity from 17.8 lakh litres to 63.3 lakh litres per day over five years. Capacity is expected to initially rise to around 32.5 lakh litres per day, with further expansion in phases; third-party plants may also be used to process surplus milk until the planned facilities become operational. New dairy plants are proposed at Bhopal, Ujjain, Sagar, Jabalpur and Gwalior.

Around ₹1,547 crore of the sanctioned investment has been earmarked for dairy infrastructure, including plants and machinery, while dairy unions and the federation will raise ₹1,246 crore through institutional loans. The Madhya Pradesh government will provide ₹500 crore for infrastructure and another ₹241 crore as its contribution to central schemes, taking proposed government support to ₹741 crore over five years.

Another ₹796 crore is proposed for strengthening village-level dairy operations, establishing new cooperative societies and enrolling more farmers, with particular emphasis on increasing women’s participation. In addition, ₹332 crore has been earmarked for marketing and milk products, including new outlets, stronger distribution and expansion of value-added dairy sales.

The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) is managing Sanchi following its MoU with the Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Dairy Federation (MPCDF) last year. NDDB Chairman Meenesh Shah said around 3,000 villages have already been added since the agreement, while the broader White Revolution 2.0 programme aims to cover 75,000 additional villages nationally.

To encourage cattle rearing and boost milk production, the State is offering livestock-purchase subsidies and working towards a direct milk bonus of around ₹5 per litre for cooperative-affiliated dairy farmers. MP State Cooperative Dairy Federation Managing Director Jaidev Biswas described the targets as difficult but achievable, while noting that Sanchi could eventually enter adjoining States, although the immediate sales focus will remain within Madhya Pradesh.
