Dr. Meenesh Shah, Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), has been honoured with the inaugural “Strategic Leadership in the Global Biogas Sector” award by the World Biogas Association (WBA) during the AD & Biogas Industry Awards 2026, held on July 8 at The Vox, NEC Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Instituted by the WBA, the award recognises exceptional strategic leadership in advancing the global biogas sector, making Dr. Shah the first-ever recipient of this international honour. Under his leadership, NDDB has developed dairy-led circular economy models that convert cattle dung into clean energy, compressed biogas (CBG), thermal and electrical energy for dairy plants, organic fertilisers and carbon credits, enabling dairy farmers to generate additional income while supporting renewable energy production, improving soil health and reducing methane emissions.

Accepting the award, Dr. Shah dedicated the recognition to millions of dairy farmers and cooperative institutions that have demonstrated how cattle dung and agricultural residues can become valuable resources when scientifically utilised. The AD & Biogas Industry Awards, jointly organised by the World Biogas Association (WBA) and the Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA), are regarded among the highest honours in the global anaerobic digestion and biogas industry, highlighting India’s growing leadership in sustainable dairy and circular bioeconomy initiatives.
