The National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India (NCDFI) and Assam Rifles have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) in New Delhi to strengthen the supply of milk and milk products through India’s dairy cooperative network, expanding market opportunities for dairy farmers while ensuring reliable supplies to one of the country’s premier paramilitary forces. The agreement was exchanged between Brigadier Sachinder Tiwari, Directorate General Assam Rifles, and Srinivas Sajja, Managing Director of NCDFI, in the presence of Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, Director General of Assam Rifles, and Dr. Meenesh Shah, Chairman of NCDFI and NDDB.
The partnership builds on successful dairy procurement arrangements implemented over the previous year. NCDFI facilitated supplies of UHT milk from Amul and Nandini, whole milk powder from Warana Milk Union, and fresh milk from dairy unions in Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura to Assam Rifles units. Following satisfactory performance, the range of products sourced through dairy cooperatives has now been expanded. Under the new arrangement, Amul will additionally supply malt-based food and cheese, while fresh milk and butter will be supplied by dairy unions including WAMUL (Assam), Dimapur (Nagaland), Bhagirathi (West Bengal) and Alwar (Rajasthan).
The initiative is expected to benefit Assam Rifles units deployed across the North Eastern states, as well as establishments in Kolkata and New Delhi. According to NCDFI, the agreement reflects a shared commitment to ensuring dependable access to quality dairy products for personnel while creating assured market opportunities for dairy cooperatives and their farmer members, particularly in the North East. Under the MoA, dairy cooperatives from the region will supply fresh milk to 72 Assam Rifles units spread across Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and other northeastern areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera highlighted the importance of reliable dairy supplies for personnel welfare, while Dr. Meenesh Shah noted that NCDFI has been facilitating milk and dairy product supplies to the Indian Army and ITBP for nearly four decades. The new partnership further strengthens the role of dairy cooperatives in serving national institutions while promoting farmer welfare, dairy development and self-reliance in the North Eastern region.
