Madhya Pradesh has announced steep increases in fertilizer prices ahead of the Kharif 2026 season, with the price of key NPK fertilizer grades rising sharply amid global supply disruptions linked to tensions in West Asia. According to revised rates issued by the Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Marketing Federation, a 50 kg bag of NPK 12:32:16 and NPK 10:26:26 will now cost ₹2,450 compared to ₹1,720 during the previous Kharif season.
NPK 16:16:16 prices have also increased to ₹2,050 per bag from ₹1,475 last year, while Ammonium Sulphate prices rose to ₹1,400 from ₹950 per bag. The price of Muriate of Potash (MOP) has been revised upward to ₹1,975 per 50 kg bag from ₹1,535 earlier, and granular Single Super Phosphate (SSP) now costs ₹605 per bag compared to ₹505 last season.
However, urea prices remain unchanged under central government regulation, while Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) continues to be sold at ₹1,350 per bag with additional subsidy support from the government. Industry sources said disruptions in fertilizer and natural gas supplies due to the ongoing West Asia conflict, including reduced availability of ammonia, sulphur and sulphuric acid, have increased production costs globally and affected fertilizer imports into India.
Reports indicate that India’s fertilizer subsidy burden may cross ₹3 lakh crore this year as the government attempts to stabilise prices of critical fertilizers such as urea and DAP. Experts warned that higher fertilizer prices could significantly increase cultivation costs for farmers during the ongoing Kharif season and may impact farm profitability and crop production if supply disruptions continue.
