Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) has increased retail milk prices by ₹4 per litre with effect from June 1, 2026, taking the price of its standard milk pouch to ₹56 per litre. The decision was approved by Milma’s Board of Directors following recommendations from an expert committee that had suggested a price revision of ₹4-6 per litre amid rising production costs and financial stress faced by dairy farmers.
According to Milma, ₹3.35 per litre (83.75%) of the additional amount will be passed directly to dairy farmers to improve producer incomes and retain farmers in the dairy sector. The remaining amount will be distributed among dairy cooperative societies (6.25%), dealers (6.25%), Milma (2.5%), the Farmer Welfare Fund (0.75%) and plastic waste management initiatives (0.5%).
Milma cited increasing costs of feed and other production inputs, drought-related challenges and higher prices of milk procured from neighbouring states as key reasons for the hike. The federation also indicated that prices of other dairy products, including curd, ghee and peda, would be revised, with curd becoming ₹10 per kg costlier.
Industry observers noted that the move reflects growing pressure on dairy cooperatives across India to balance farmer welfare with rising operational costs while ensuring a sustainable milk supply chain.
