In a symbolic protest against milk adulteration and what they describe as inconsistent quality standards, dairy farmers in Jaipur, Rajasthan, introduced mock milk variants labeled M0, M20, M50, and M100, drawing a comparison with India’s ethanol-blended fuel categories such as E20 petrol. Under the demonstration, M0 represented pure milk, while M20 and M50 symbolized milk mixed with 20% and 50% water respectively, and M100 represented fully diluted milk or water.
Farmer leaders said the campaign was designed to highlight growing concerns over milk adulteration and the challenges faced by genuine dairy producers competing with cheaper, allegedly adulterated products in the market. Protesters stated that the symbolic milk grades would be used to raise public awareness and even suggested that “M100” milk be reserved for policymakers as a message against food adulteration.
The protest comes amid increasing scrutiny of milk quality and food safety across India, where regulators have intensified action against adulterated dairy products and informal supply chains. (www.ndtv.com)
