Milk prices across Maharashtra will increase by ₹2 per litre from August 11, 2026, with both cow and buffalo milk becoming costlier amid rising procurement, transportation and operating costs. Under the revised rates, cow milk will rise from ₹60 to ₹62 per litre, while buffalo milk will increase from ₹76 to ₹78 per litre.
The decision was taken by the Milk Producers and Processors Welfare Association, which represents major cooperative and private dairy organisations in the state. The association cited higher input costs, including a reported ₹10-per-litre increase in diesel prices, around 30% higher packaging costs, increased transportation expenses and rising milk procurement costs.
The impact is expected to extend beyond liquid milk, with prices of dairy products such as curd, paneer, butter, ghee, cheese, flavoured milk and milk-based sweets potentially rising by up to 10% in the coming weeks. This could put additional pressure on household budgets as well as hotels, restaurants, sweet shops and other dairy-dependent businesses.
The Maharashtra increase comes amid a broader debate over dairy pricing and farmer remuneration. The Centre has clarified that there is currently no proposal to introduce a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for milk, with milk prices continuing to be determined by cooperatives and private dairies according to market conditions.
