The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has stated that only nearly 0.2% of milk samples collected across Karnataka were found to be adulterated, amid growing concerns over milk quality and viral social media claims. According to data shared by the state government, 15,15,575 milk samples were tested across 19 dairy unions during a one-year period, out of which 3,049 samples were detected as adulterated.
Hassan district reported the highest number of adulterated samples at 788, followed by Ballari with 588, Shivamogga with 434, Mandya with 418 and Kalaburagi with 315 cases. Authorities said common adulteration practices involved adding salt and sugar to alter milk composition and density.
KMF has strengthened surveillance by deploying vigilance teams and increasing testing at dairy processing units to ensure quality compliance under the Nandini brand. Officials said adulterated consignments are being rejected and awareness programmes are being conducted among milk suppliers and cooperative societies to prevent repeat violations.
The federation also warned that police action would be initiated if adulteration is detected in milk marketed under the Nandini brand. (DairyNews)
