Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian cheesemakers for their outstanding performance at the Mundial do Queijo do Brasil 2026, where India made a remarkable debut by securing four medals—one Super Gold, two Golds, and one Silver. The prestigious global competition for cheese and dairy products, held in São Paulo, witnessed participation from over 30 countries and was judged by around 350 international experts, marking a significant milestone for India’s artisanal dairy sector.

The Super Gold was awarded to Eleftheria Gulmarg, a Brie-style cheese, while Gold medals were won by Yak Churpi-Soft from Nordic Farm in Leh, Ladakh, and Eleftheria Brunost, a whey-based cheese. The Silver medal went to Eleftheria Kaali Miri, a Belper Knolle-style cheese. Prime Minister Modi, in his message, highlighted that “cheese from India makes its mark globally,” emphasizing that such achievements reflect the growing strength, innovation, and global recognition of India’s artisanal cheesemaking ecosystem.

He also congratulated key contributors Mausam Narang and Thenlay Nurboo for their role in bringing international attention to Indian cheeses, noting that these successes not only showcase India’s traditional and innovative dairy practices but also strengthen the country’s position in the global dairy landscape. The achievement signals a rising global acceptance of Indian-origin cheeses beyond conventional products, reinforcing the potential of the country’s value-added dairy segment.
