Mumbai’s iconic 110-year-old Parsi Dairy Farm has resumed operations after the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) restored its food business licence, nearly two weeks after suspending it over food safety and hygiene violations. The licence was reinstated after a follow-up inspection confirmed that the dairy had implemented the corrective measures prescribed by the FDA.
During the initial inspection conducted on July 14, officials reported multiple violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, including fungal growth on production and storage area walls, improper storage of raw materials, pest infestation, inadequate sanitation, the absence of a protected raw milk reception dock, incomplete medical records of food handlers, and lapses in mandatory product labelling.
The dairy undertook extensive cleaning, infrastructure improvements and compliance measures before being allowed to reopen. The development comes amid Maharashtra’s broader food safety enforcement drive, highlighting the importance of regulatory compliance, hygiene standards and quality assurance in protecting consumer confidence while demonstrating that prompt corrective action can help businesses restore operations.
