Purabi Dairy, managed by West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL), has initiated a ₹104 crore expansion at its Panjabari plant near Guwahati. Supported by an MoU with NDDB signed during Advantage Assam 2.0, the facility’s capacity will rise from 1.5 lakh litres per day (LPD) to 3 lakh LPD. Pasteurized pouch milk output will increase from 1.15 LPD to 2 LPD. Additionally, new units for ice cream (20 TLPD, expandable to 30 TLPD) and other dairy products (70 TLPD) will be integrated.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led the Bhoomi Poojan, heralding stronger market access for farmers, enhanced milk collection infrastructure, and deepened rural economies. Soon, dairy farmers will receive an additional Rs 5 per litre as government aid over and above the market price.
WAMUL and NDDB emphasize that the expansion under the Assam Dairy Development Plan aims to ensure sustainable livelihoods and meet growing consumer demand across the region .
