The National Green Tribunal (NGT) and Delhi High Court have raised serious concerns over dairies operating adjacent to the Ghazipur landfill in Delhi. Authorities and courts noted that cows grazing near the landfill may ingest toxic waste, affecting milk quality and posing public health risks . The Delhi HC ordered the relocation of Ghazipur and Bhalaswa dairy colonies and mandated FSSAI and city agencies to amplify testing for contaminants in milk and dairy products from nine designated dairy zones .

In response, MCD submitted its cleanup progress to the NGT on July 9, 2025, noting that 2,400–2,600 MT of waste is dumped daily, 700–1,000 MT processed via waste-to-energy, and legacy waste reduced to ~85 lakh MT. Leachate management is underway, methane ventilation pipes installed, and structural cracks repaired. Ghazipur landfill’s full reclamation is targeted by 2028 .
