The Maharashtra FDA has issued a strict directive warning hotels, restaurants, and caterers against substituting paneer with non-dairy analogues. Establishments found using such substitutes will face immediate licence suspension. FDA Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar emphasized consumer rights under the Food Safety and Standards Act, mandating clear ingredient disclosure through signage or menus. Inspections are underway, with at least 10 establishments in each area to be checked by May 2. Offenders risk penalties and operational shutdowns.

Industry Insight:
This move highlights growing regulatory focus on dairy integrity and consumer transparency, setting a precedent for other states to tighten checks on dairy product authenticity.
