India has reported the birth of its first Badri cattle calf produced through OPU-IVF technology, marking a development in the use of advanced reproductive technologies for the conservation and multiplication of indigenous cattle genetics.

Advanced Reproduction for Indigenous Cattle
OPU (Ovum Pick-Up) involves collecting oocytes from a donor animal, while in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) is used to fertilise the oocytes under controlled laboratory conditions. The resulting embryos can subsequently be transferred to recipient animals.
Applying this technology to Badri cattle can provide an additional reproductive tool for multiplying valuable indigenous genetics and supporting structured breeding programmes.
