The Telangana government is taking steps to strengthen Vijaya Dairy and improve the welfare of dairy farmers, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister Vakiti Srihari said in the Legislative Council. The Minister said the recent decline in milk procurement was temporary and was mainly linked to the prolonged lean season.
Vijaya Dairy’s average daily milk procurement stood at 3.60 lakh litres in 2023–24, increased to 4 lakh litres in 2024–25, and declined to 3.36 lakh litres in 2025–26. The figures indicate the pressure on procurement volumes while also highlighting the scope for rebuilding the cooperative dairy’s milk collection network.
The Minister also clarified that there were no outstanding dues to dairy farmers for milk procurement payments, addressing concerns over the financial position of farmers supplying milk to the cooperative.
For Telangana’s dairy sector, strengthening Vijaya Dairy could be important for improving farmer participation, milk procurement and cooperative-sector competitiveness. A stronger procurement network can also help the state dairy system secure a more consistent supply base as seasonal fluctuations affect milk availability.
The focus now is on converting the government’s commitment into stronger procurement and better farmer support, particularly as competition from private dairies continues to shape Telangana’s milk market.
