The Telangana government has imposed a one-year ban on the manufacture, processing, packing, storage, distribution, transportation and sale of non-dairy, artificial or analogue paneer across the State, citing public health concerns. The prohibition, issued by the Commissioner of Food Safety under Section 30(2)(a) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, took effect from September 10, 2026, and was notified as Gazette Notification No. 807.
The move follows a special enforcement drive by the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE), during which authorities inspected 14 dairy units in Hyderabad and adjoining areas and found materials including palm oil and glycerol monostearate at units allegedly manufacturing analogue paneer.
The order covers analogue or non-dairy paneer whether sold as “paneer” or otherwise, while products that are legally standardised under the FSS Act and marketed under their prescribed name and conditions are exempt.
