Farmers under the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Chaudhary Kartar Singh faction) held a mahapanchayat in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, demanding that the 2026–27 sugarcane crushing-season price be fixed at ₹600 per quintal before sugar mills begin operations. The farmers want the rate announced before the start of crushing and warned that if the government does not announce the ₹600 rate by October 20, they will burn sugarcane in protest on October 25.
During the mahapanchayat, district president Chaudhary Jai Sukh Lal Singh also raised concerns over milk prices and demanded higher remuneration for dairy farmers, noting that milk prices in some other states have increased by ₹30–₹40 per litre in recent times. The demands highlight continued pressure on farm economics as producers seek higher returns to offset rising cultivation and livestock-production costs.
