The Odisha government has approved a ₹2-per-litre increase in the milk procurement price paid to dairy farmers, with the revised rate coming into effect from September 11, 2026. The move, implemented through the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED), is aimed at providing additional income support to dairy farmers amid rising production and transportation costs.
The procurement-price revision is expected to strengthen the economics of milk production for farmers and support the cooperative dairy procurement network. Higher returns at the farm level could also encourage greater participation in organised milk collection and help OMFED maintain a stronger supply base.
The decision comes at a time when dairy farmers across several Indian states are facing pressure from higher costs for cattle feed, fodder, veterinary care, labour and transportation. For cooperatives, improving procurement prices can help retain farmers and sustain regular milk availability for processing and distribution.
For Odisha’s dairy sector, the ₹2-per-litre increase represents a direct intervention at the producer level, while also highlighting the growing importance of balancing farmer remuneration, milk procurement and consumer pricing. The revised procurement rate will take effect from September 11.
