More than 6.57 lakh new RuPay Kisan Credit Cards (KCCs) have been distributed to dairy farmers in Gujarat, expanding access to institutional credit through the State’s cooperative banking network. The initiative is being implemented through District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) and the State Cooperative Bank (StCB), with the aim of providing timely liquidity, lower-cost credit and convenient digital transactions to dairy farmers.
The RuPay KCC facility is expected to help dairy farmers meet their working-capital requirements and recurring expenses more efficiently, while also encouraging digital payments and greater participation in the formal banking system. By connecting dairy farmers with cooperative banks and grassroots cooperative institutions, the programme seeks to strengthen financial inclusion and support rural dairy livelihoods.
The initiative is aligned with the broader “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” approach, which seeks to use cooperatives to expand access to financial services and strengthen rural economies. A Union Ministry of Cooperation update also noted that, as of February 28, 2026, Gujarat had recorded more than 33 lakh deposit accounts, 10,079 Bank Mitras, 10,265 Micro-ATMs, 6.5 lakh RuPay KCCs and around 9.5 lakh KCCs for Animal Husbandry under the “Cooperation among Cooperatives” campaign.
For Gujarat’s dairy sector, wider access to formal working capital can help farmers manage continuous costs linked to milk production while reducing dependence on informal credit. The expansion also strengthens the link between dairy cooperatives, PACS, cooperative banks and milk producers, making financial inclusion an increasingly important component of dairy-sector development.
