Tripura has emerged as the second-largest milk producer in Northeast India, reflecting significant progress in dairy development, veterinary care and livestock services, according to Animal Resource Development and Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das.
Speaking at a programme in Agartala, the minister said the state’s sustained investments in dairy infrastructure, animal healthcare and scientific livestock management have substantially boosted milk production, placing Tripura behind only Assam in the region. The government has expanded dairy facilities and strengthened support for dairy farmers as part of its broader strategy to enhance rural livelihoods and achieve greater self-sufficiency in milk production.
The achievement comes amid continued efforts to modernize the state’s dairy sector through improved breeding, nutrition, veterinary services and cooperative development. Officials said the expansion of dairy infrastructure and farmer-focused initiatives is expected to further increase milk output, improve producer incomes and strengthen Tripura’s position as an emerging dairy hub in Northeast India.
