Members of Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative have welcomed the introduction of the Agricultural Act of 2026, a discussion draft of the U.S. Senate’s long-awaited Farm Bill released by Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman John Boozman.

The cooperative urged lawmakers to move quickly on a bipartisan basis to advance the legislation, noting that it has been nearly eight years since a comprehensive Farm Bill was enacted. Among the key dairy provisions supported by Edge are the reauthorization of the Dairy Indemnity Payment Program through 2031, the permanent removal of the sunset date for the Dairy Forward Pricing Program, increased funding for Dairy Business Innovation Initiatives, and the mandatory reporting of dairy product processing costs.

Edge President Heidi Fischer said permanent authorization of the Dairy Forward Pricing Program is a major policy priority, as it helps dairy farmers stabilize revenue in volatile markets where feed, labour and energy costs remain unpredictable. The cooperative also noted that while portions of the Farm Bill were included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act passed earlier this year, passage of the remaining Agricultural Act of 2026 would provide dairy farmers with greater certainty, a stronger safety net and stable federal farm and food programmes for the next five years.
