The Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI), in association with the North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC) under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), organised the 6th Edition of the India Food Manufacturing Summit – North East in Guwahati on May 29. Held under the theme “Unlocking North East India’s Food Economy: From Farm Abundance to Global Value Chains,” the summit focused on food processing, value addition and market access opportunities for agricultural and horticultural products from the region.
During the event, TPCI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NERAMAC to promote North East products and strengthen market linkages and trade opportunities. Discussions highlighted the region’s potential in horticulture and organic products including pineapple, orange, banana, jackfruit, kiwi, passion fruit and tomato, along with GI-tagged products such as Lakadong turmeric, ginger, large cardamom, black pepper and indigenous chillies.
Technical sessions covered dairy sector development, value chains for ethnic foods, commercialisation of GI-tagged products, bakery and ready-to-eat foods, and cold-chain infrastructure in hilly regions, with emphasis on processing technologies, farm-gate handling, storage, packaging and market access. The summit also showcased the upcoming Indusfood Show and Indusfood Manufacturing Exhibition 2027, scheduled from January 6-8, 2027 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi.
Speakers stressed the importance of sustainable practices, energy-efficient technologies and eco-friendly packaging to strengthen the food processing ecosystem. The programme was attended by Agriculture Production Commissioner Smt. Aruna Rajoria as Chief Guest, NERAMAC Managing Director Shri Bhaskar Barua as Guest of Honour, along with Shri Satya Brata Bose of NEDFL (Purabi), Dr. Radhey Shyam Dixit of Ananda Dairy, Dr. Basanti Barooah, Ms. Bhavana Vishwanath and representatives from industry, academia and allied sectors.
