Madhya Pradesh is accelerating its dairy sector expansion as Chief Minister Mohan Yadav reiterated the state’s ambition to become India’s “Milk Capital” through higher milk production, expanded dairy infrastructure and stronger farmer support systems. According to state government reviews, daily milk procurement in Madhya Pradesh has increased 11% year-on-year to 9.67 lakh kg, while the six-month average has crossed 11 lakh kg per day. Payments to milk producers during FY26 rose 15% to ₹1,609 crore compared to ₹1,398 crore in FY25, supported by milk procurement price increases ranging from ₹2.50 to ₹8.50 per litre across milk unions.
The state also formed 1,752 new dairy cooperative societies and announced major infrastructure projects including modernization of the Gwalior dairy plant, revival of the Shivpuri dairy plant and commissioning of a 3 lakh litre-per-day milk powder plant in Indore. Madhya Pradesh’s dairy brand Sanchi recorded strong growth, with ghee sales rising 17% along with higher sales of paneer, curd, buttermilk and flavoured milk driven by improved packaging and branding strategies.
Currently ranked third in India’s milk production, the state government is positioning dairy development as a major rural economy driver with long-term plans focused on processing expansion, cooperative strengthening and farmer income growth.
