In a major step toward managing dairy waste, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has approved the setting up of a 300 tonnes-per-day (TPD) biogas plant at the Ghazipur dairy farm, with the proposal set to be tabled in the House meeting scheduled for April 24, 2026.

The plant will be developed on approximately five acres of land, and tenders are expected to be issued shortly. The initiative is part of a broader city-wide plan to tackle waste from dairy colonies, which includes multiple biogas facilities—such as plants at Bhalswa dairy, 75 TPD units at Masoodpur and Madanpur Khadar, a 100 TPD plant at Sarita Vihar, and a 200 TPD unit at Mangolpuri.

Additional projects include a 100 TPD plant at Pitampura, 200 TPD plants at Rohini and Sagarpur, and a 50 TPD unit at Khajuri Khas. Authorities have also directed coordination between the Delhi government, MCD, and the National Dairy Development Board to manage waste from dairies and गौशालाएँ more effectively.

As part of the larger action plan, the city aims to establish 10 biogas plants and 9 wastewater treatment facilities, along with drainage upgrades, to prevent untreated dairy waste from entering the Yamuna and reduce environmental pollution. (MillenniumPost)
