In a striking protest in Ludhiana, members of Jagrati Sena gathered at Jagraon Bridge and used binoculars to “search” for milk-testing laboratories, highlighting the alleged absence of adequate testing infrastructure in the city.

The protesters claimed they could not find even a single functional lab despite scanning the entire city, blaming authorities for failing to curb the “milk adulteration mafia.” They further alleged that only one milk-testing van is serving three districts, calling the arrangement an “eyewash.”

Raising serious public health concerns, activists linked adulterated milk to rising illnesses and deaths, urging citizens to unite against what they termed “white poison.” The group also demanded systemic reforms, including training Class VIII students in milk testing and strict action against officials over the reported supply of sub-standard milk powder from a Ludhiana-based plant to the Army.

Criticising enforcement practices, they said inspections were often pre-informed, defeating the purpose of surprise checks, and called on the state government to ensure accountability and restore consumer trust.
