The Government of India is strengthening the livestock and dairy sector in Bihar through multiple central schemes aimed at boosting productivity, entrepreneurship and farmer incomes. Under the National Livestock Mission (NLM), which focuses on employment generation, entrepreneurship development and increasing per-animal productivity, key interventions are being implemented across three sub-missions—breed development, feed and fodder development, and innovation and extension.

As part of the Entrepreneurship Development Programme, 2 projects with a total cost of ₹70 lakh have been approved in Bihar, with a subsidy of ₹14 lakh already released to beneficiaries, supporting grassroots dairy and livestock enterprises.

The schemes are designed to enhance production of milk, meat, eggs, goat milk and wool, while improving efficiency across the value chain through better breeding, nutrition and extension services. These efforts complement broader government initiatives to strengthen dairy infrastructure, expand cooperative networks, and improve feed, fodder and animal health services, ultimately aiming to reduce production costs and increase farmer incomes in the state.
