The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Himachal Pradesh government to strengthen the state’s dairy sector, with a focus on enhancing milk processing capacity, modernising infrastructure and generating rural employment.
The agreement, signed in Shimla on March 16, 2026, builds on an earlier 2023 understanding for the Dagwar dairy project, and now aims at operating the Dagwar plant and upgrading processing units with computerised quality control systems.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the initiative will introduce advanced milk processing technologies and bio-products, while improving efficiency across the dairy value chain. The project is expected to create new livelihood opportunities for farmers, as milk production in the state has already seen a rise and is likely to grow further once the infrastructure becomes operational.
The state also plans to market dairy products under the ‘HIM’ brand, leveraging Himachal Pradesh’s clean environment to promote dairy-based industries. Additionally, the partnership is aimed at strengthening cooperative systems, improving processing capabilities and supporting long-term rural economic growth through dairy development.
