AI-Driven Breeding: Madhya Pradesh (MP) has implemented sex-sorted semen technology in collaboration with the Central Semen Station, Bhopal, to ensure a 90% likelihood of female calf births through artificial insemination—boosting milk productivity while reducing stray cattle populations.
Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana: The state government has introduced the “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana,” offering subsidies ranging from ₹10 lakh to ₹14 lakh to establish professional dairy units with 25 milch animals. SC/ST farmers receive 33% support (₹14 lakh), while General & OBC beneficiaries receive 25% (₹10 lakh). Applicants must complete mandatory dairy training.
Milk Production Ambitions: Currently collecting around 10 lakh liters daily, MP has scaled its target to a transformative 50 lakh liters per day. The scheme supports setting up up to eight units (200 animals per farmer), with a three-year lock-in and a seven-year operational commitment.
Strong Farmer Response: Within one month of rollout, over 1,400 applications were received—exceeding expected targets. Approximately 600–700 applicants have completed training, around 350–400 cases have been forwarded to banks, and loans have begun sanctioning.
Industry Insight:
By marrying advanced breeding technology with financial mobilization, Madhya Pradesh is setting a high-performance example in dairy reform. This dual initiative—AI-assisted sex selection and robust public support—positions the state for scaled milk production, empowered rural entrepreneurship, and streamlined livestock management.
