Collector A.K. Kamal Kishore has exhorted the officials of Department of Animal Husbandry and Aavin to make all-out efforts to increase the district’s milk production and the milk procurement of Aavin.

Chairing a meeting to review the performance of Aavin here on Monday, he said the officials should make earnest efforts to increase milk production. Of the 12,000 litres of milk being procured in the district every day through 73 milk cooperative societies, 7,000 litres of milk was being sold in the district while the remaining 5,000 litres of milk was given to Tirunelveli Aavin.

Since the government had set the target of increasing milk and milk products in Tamil Nadu, the Animal Husbandry Department and Aavin officials should take active steps for increasing milk production. The officials, by creating new milk cooperative societies in every village, should ensure the procurement of at least 200 litres of milk from every village.

“We should assure the milk suppliers that they would get the assured procurement price for the milk every week through their registered bank account. Moreover, the incentive of ₹3 per litre will also be paid to this account every month,” Mr. Kishore said.

The Collector also urged the officials to work closely with the heads of village panchayats for creating new milk cooperative societies and increasing the milk procurement.
